Six Ways to Save On Fragrance Now (perfume cologne samples)

(perfume cologne samples)

If you are one of those perfume lovers who adores fragrance but has limited (as in finite) financial means, you will often be faced with problems at the perfume counter. Unless you're a one-fragrance woman, it can be hard to narrow down your fragrance needs to one or two scents a year. You may not have to. Here are some ways to build your collection without breaking your budget.(perfume cologne samples)

(perfume cologne samples): First, learn about decanting. Decanting is the process of taking perfume (or cologne or eau de parfum) out of one large bottle and putting it into several smaller bottles. Most perfume-crazy people become decanters because it is about the best way to expand your collection economically. You'll need small glass bottles, an eye dropper, and a glass funnel. (Only use glass tools.) You should probably wear a mask as you decant, since the fumes can be strong. You get together with some perfume buddies, divvy up the cost of a bottle of scent, and then decant it into equal portions.(perfume cologne samples).

(perfume cologne samples): Second, buy samples. There is a fabulous new perfumer in Boston called Neil Morris who sells samples of his fragrances (http://www.neilmorris.com). Many other smaller houses will do the same. Some online perfume websites also sell smaller bottles of scent for reasonable prices. This is a bit of a hunt, since not all perfumers do this.

(perfume cologne samples): Third, beg samples. You need to shop for perfume faithfully at certain locations, be they websites or perfume counters. If you get well known as a frequent buyer or can strike up a rapport with a perfume salesperson, you may be able to get some samples. I'm not talking about those little pieces of paper that they spritz with scent. I mean little bottles of a new or older fragrance that you can try. Only the very lucky get samples without being established customers. But established customers should get some samples from time to time.(perfume cologne samples)

(perfume cologne samples): Fourth, look for smaller sizes or unusual packaging. Sometimes you can try a great new scent in a small purse-sized roll-on or a perfume solid. This is a great way to test drive a new scent or to add to your collection without having to spring for the giant bottle. One of the best perfume deals going is Bond No. 9's sampler box (called the Bon Bon Box), but it costs $240. This buys you 18 fairly large refillable bottles of eau de parfum.

(perfume cologne samples): Fifth, spritz at the counter. This is not my favorite way of trying new scents (since I generally leave the perfume counter having sprayed on five or six scents which I tend to mix up) but it can work if you're disciplined. Again, it helps if you are an established customer. Go with no scent. Try a specific scent on and wear it that day. Don't buy it that day, even if you love it. (Buy something else, if you have to.) Your job is to sample it. Quite truthfully, sometimes a sample spritz in one day will tell you all you need to know about a fragrance.

(perfume cologne samples): Sixth, tell everyone you love perfume and don't hesitate to be specific. I'm not saying to fish for gifts. But haven't we all thought long and hard to find the perfect gift for some occasion? Women can be tough to buy for and along the way in life, you are going to be given some gifts. Whether they're thank-you gifts, birthday presents, or just little tokens along the way, perfume is a great thing to give and get. If you're a known perfume lover, some people may be intimidated to buy perfume for you. That's why you should be very clear in your hint dropping. Mention how you love Chanel No. 5 but have never owned it or say that you just love the scents from Kenzo but haven't bought them. Okay, this suggestion is not for everyone, but I've often been grateful when people have hinted at gifts they'd like.(perfume cologne samples)

Perfume is not cheap but perfumistas generally find a way to get the perfumes they love.

(perfume cologne samples): One last hint: don't buy knockoffs. Here is why I say that. Let's say you love old Frank Sinatra music. And let's say you had a chance to get some of his recordings from the 1950s. But let's also say that there was a Rich Little type of guy working in Vegas who could imitate Frank Sinatra and he had made a record of some old 1950s Sinatra songs. Would you rather have the original recordings or the imitation version? (perfume cologne samples)

Now what if I were to tell you that this imitator was so good, it was truly hard to tell the recording apart. Let's even go so far as to say that it fooled a few people in an independent test.

(perfume cologne samples): Do you want the originals or the imitations? Most music lovers would take the originals, even if they were not as good in quality! Why? Because there is something emotional about music and about the whole Frank Sinatra mystique that makes the original have a sort of "value" that is hard to quantify.

That's how I feel about real perfume. Knockoffs may be good (they often aren't). But at the end of the day, I'd rather have the real stuff. It's hard to explain why. I like to think I'd know the difference, but even if I could not pinpoint it, I can feel the difference. Perfume is like music for the nose! (perfume cologne samples)

An Inside to Perfume (perfume cologne samples)

(perfume cologne samples): “perfume” derives from the Latin words per and fumus - meaning “through smoke”. The Egyptians were the first to incorporate perfume into their culture followed by the ancient Chinese and Hindus, the use of perfume then spread to Greece, Rome, and the Islamic world. (perfume cologne samples)

(perfume cologne samples): Introduction The word “perfume” derives from the Latin words per and fumus - meaning “through smoke”, which refers to man’s early ritual of releasing pleasing or masking odours into the air by burning or heating fragrant materials. Throughout the years we have evolved from releasing the fragrances into the air, to wearing them on our person in various forms.(perfume cologne samples)

(perfume cologne samples) Scents Fragrances are classified according to the concentration of scent within the fragrance. Those fragrances with a higher concentration of scent (essential oils) have a higher intensity/longevity, which explains the dramatic differences in price between an eau de cologne and Perfume extract. Perfume extract: 20-40% essential oils. Eau de parfum (EDP): 10-30% essential oils. Eau de toilette (EDT): 5-20% essential oils. Eau de cologne (EDC): 2-5% essential oils.(perfume cologne samples)

(perfume cologne samples)Fragrances are often classified as belong to a particular “family”. The following is a breakdown of traditional perfume family classifications, followed by some newer ones which have emerged in more recent years: Amber: A vanilla basis with floral & wood scents. Chypre: Fragrances containing undertones of patchouli, bergamot, oakmoss etcetera. Single Floral: These fragrances are dominated by the scent of one particular flower. Floral Bouquet: Scents containing combinations of two or more flowers. Fougère: Scents with an underlying base of lavender, oakmoss and coumarin, providing a “herbaceous” woody fragrance(perfume cologne samples) . Leather: These fragrances have the underlying scents of wood, tobacco and honey, suggestive of real “leather”. Woody: These fragrances feature the scents of sandalwood, cedar, patchouli. Citrus: A predominantly citrus-based scent. Bright Floral: Combination of Single Floral and Floral Bouquet. Green: A less heavy version of Chypre scents. Gourmand: A scent which resembles particular food flavours including vanilla bean, strawberry. Oceanic/Ozone: A freshlight, clean scent, used in many scents available for him/her.(perfume cologne samples)

(perfume cologne samples) Along with the above scents, each perfume also contains three individual notes, which are detailed in the order in which they are appreciated: Top (or Head) Notes: The initial impression given by a fragrance immediately after application. This evaporates after a few minutes and is no longer noticeable. Middle (Heart) Notes: The second-stage scent which appears once the head notes fade, and the fragrance blends with the body’s own chemistry (and the reason why perfumes smell different on different people). This takes between 10-20 minutes to develop and lasts for several hours (perfume cologne samples). Base Notes: The remaining, lingering scent which remains once the perfume has dried, after the middle notes also fade. This is the lasting, staying power of the fragrance.(perfume cologne samples)

(perfume cologne samples) Conclusion When buying a perfume, it is important to consider what occasion it is to be worn for, and choose from an appropriate “family”. Some of the lighter citrus or oceanic scents are perfect for summer days, whilst a heavier floral bouquet is more fitting for a winter’s evening. Most importantlyArticle Submission, when testing a new fragrance prior to purchase you must take into consideration the three notes outlined above before placing your order with Perfumessentials.com.(perfume cologne samples)

Perfume And Cologne - Appreciating The Differences (perfume cologne samples)

(perfume cologne samples): While the art of perfumery began with the religious ceremonies of the ancient Egyptians, who from as early as 3000 B.C, used a mix of fragrant plants to scent animal and vegetable oils as ceremonial ointments, perfume as we know it today first became popular in early16th century Paris, after the Crusaders returned from the Middle East bearing the secrets of its creation to Europe.(perfume cologne samples)

The First Cologne (perfume cologne samples)

It was not until nearly three centuries later, however that Eau de Cologne first appeared,. The original Cologne is said to have been produced in Koln, Germany, in 1792; legend has it that the “recipe” for the first cologne was created by a Carthusian monk in hiding there who gave it to Wilhelm Mulhense as a wedding gift, calling it “Miracle Water” because of its healing properties (perfume cologne samples).

Wilhelm began producing and selling the “Miracle Water,” which was an instant hit among his male friends, and began calling it Cologne, the French name for the city of Koln (perfume cologne samples) . His Cologne was called “4711” after the street address of his shop, and is said to have had a refreshing citrus base (perfume cologne samples). 4711 is still produced today, although the Mulhense family sold their cologne production facility to Wella in 1994.(perfume cologne samples)

The Differences (perfume cologne samples)

The basic difference between perfume and cologne is in their strength. While both perfume and cologne are made denatured ethyl alcohol and essential oils (perfume cologne samples) , perfume and eau de parfum contain between fifteen and twenty-two percent essential oils; eau de cologne contains only between four percent essential oils.

The major differences between perfume and cologne (perfume cologne samples), therefore, are that perfume’s fragrance is stronger, and will remain fresh longer, so that it should be applied much more sparingly than cologne, which can be splashed on. And the greater the amount of the essential oils in perfume and cologne, the more expensive they will be.(perfume cologne samples)

Storing Perfume And Cologne (perfume cologne samples)

Because both perfume and cologne have such high alcohol contents, they should be stored out in a cool dark place to prevent them from evaporating or undergoing a change of color. Although consumers very often keep their perfume and cologne in their bathrooms, the heat from showers and baths will not be good for them; as long as they are kept away from the light, a bedroom is a much better choice. But the best place, if not the most convenient, to store perfume and cologne to maximize their lives is in the refrigerator. (perfume cologne samples)

Perfume and cologne are one of life’s little pleasures, and knowing how to care for them so that they will perform as intended from the first drops in their bottles to the last is one of life’s little arts! (perfume cologne samples)
